Hi, I am a 51st circle moon mage, puttering around with trying to get the ways quest...

the catch is that I don't have moongate. I have heard of people completing this quest at much lower circles than myself... Instead the researcher tells me to get more experience in the three-dimensional world first... I'm not really sure what this means.

The only requirement to going on the quest is knowledge of the Moongate spell, which signals to the researcher that you're fully versed in the theory and practice of screwing around with space (what's referred to in some other messaging as enlightened geometry).

As he says, he needs to know you've mastered three dimensions before he'll saddle you with a few more.
